Bio

AC Carlson is a Ph.D. candidate in Rhetoric and Composition at IU Bloomington. They have an MA in English Literature as well a BA in English and BA in Theatre from Northern Arizona University. Their dissertation project explores the role of imagination in rhetoric, exploring the role of speculative futures in discourse. They have previously done research in digital rhetorics, social media and circulation, and multimodal composition. They are broadly interested in the complex interplay and co-determination of culture, media, and rhetoric. As an educator, AC prioritizes a community ethos in the classroom. Their classes have explored the impacts of games on culture and learning, relationships to technology, and boundaries of Otherness. With a background in theatre and creative writing, AC has run workshops on creative writing and podcasting, and they bring a focus on play and creativity to their pedagogy.

Personal Bio

Currently based in Bloomington, Indiana, I grew up in Northern California before finishing high school in Bullhead City, Arizona. After finishing my undergraduate degrees, I spent two years teaching English in Shimada, Shizuoka, Japan as part of the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. When not working, I enjoying music, nature, playing TTRPGs, and spending time with my cat, Geoff.
